The proposal starts from the basic design drawn up by municipal architects, the first phase of which, corresponding to the therapeutic swimming pool programme, has already been executed. This initial design, on which our project introduces a series of modifications agreed with the Consistory, proposed the intervention in an urban key, the sports complex as an excuse to develop the urban design of this sector of the city.
This second phase implements the rest of the functional programme, a multi-purpose indoor swimming pool and a sports pavilion, which constitutes the main volume of the complex. Given the topography of the environment in which it is inserted, the building is configured on two levels, an upper level for access to both swimming pools and the high (fixed) stands of the pavilion, and a lower level corresponding to the multi-sports court, the low (retractable) stands and the associated changing rooms. This last level also houses the facilities of both swimming pools and part of the therapeutic programme of the first phase.
In general, the proposal is configured as a horizontal prism in which a porch has been carved to organise the main entrances and in which the multi-purpose sports pavilion is identified with a higher volume. Above the new swimming pool, a series of skylights emerge on the roof to provide this space with abundant, comfortable and controlled natural lighting.
Among the modifications introduced in the development of the project, it is worth highlighting the redesign of the fixed and retractable stands, increasing the seating capacity and optimising the visibility of the sporting events and the comfort of users, and the extension of the toilet and changing room facilities located on the same level as the multi-purpose pool, avoiding the need to go down to the ones placed on the lower floor of the therapeutic pool.
