The new Sociocultural Center will be built at the place of the old market, dissapeared after a fire. Among the different ways of occupying the site, we decided to put the building over a square or free area, a covered space that will function as a meeting point. That open space will be able to host exhibitions or street markets, in memory of its old function.
The covered square will occupy the whole ground level, with the exception of the building accesses and the cafe. The latter could be extended towards the porch and depressed patio, where we placed a climbing wall.
The new Sociocultural Center will have training rooms, classrooms, workshops and multipurpose rooms, all of them flexible and versatile spaces with zenithal light. There will also be spaces for individual or group work, these ones lighted through windows, and areas for the disclosure of the different activities, exhibitions and publications. In addition to these main areas there will be a small management area.
The design for the new Center, with a total floor area of 1.500 m² and 10 m high will be able to host different uses in the future, thanks to a flexible and rational design.
The walls of the old building will be partially conserved, as a memory of the perimeter of the old market.
