The project had to develop a special refurbishment, the partial demolition of two blocks in a “T” layout over a ground floor that would be the starting point for the new arts and crafts school.
The analysis of the functional program and environment features took us to propose an annular scheme placed over the existing ground floor structure. In that way, we could resolve the functional needs while fitting to the urban fabric, characterized by the beautiful surrounding blocks.
Another urban strategy was the design of a public space as the access to Liceo, a place that would be a meeting point and it would distance the building from the traffic of the avenue.
The new floors would have a wood structure over a new platform for load distribution. The façade of the school would be perforated to take advantage of daylight in classrooms, workshops and galleries and to enjoy the wonderful landscape.
