The aim of the competition was the design of a new nursery and kindergarten as an extension of the existing primary school. Moreover, it was required the construction of a basement floor for parking and storage that would be shared with local associations. Our proposal tried to fit the environment in a natural way. It was fragmented in smaller areas, getting closer to the scale of surrounding buildings. The classrooms were oriented to the south, looking for the sunlight, so important in that region. The presence of a big deciduous tree invited us to organize the extension around it. Its form helped to differentiate and enrich the exterior playgrounds corresponding to the different ages of schoolchild. As it was defined in the functional program, the common areas were connected with the gymnasium of the primary school and generously dimensioned because of the severity of winter in Brunico, a season in which children can not play out.
