Sport dock and service buildings are founded on reclaimed land in the port of Cadiz, next to its entrance and supported on San Felipe pier.
The initial project was divided in three phases: relationship areas and management offices, residence for yachtsmen and leisure spots. Only the first stage, that included the lobby, exhibition areas, the hall, the restaurant and its terraces, was built. It hosted Mundo Vela 92, a series of sailing events to commemorate the discovery of America by Columbus. That’s why one of the main aims of the project was to provide platforms and outdoor covered spaces with views of both the bay and the city. This determined its external image as a stranded ship.
Regarding the construction process it is remarcable that the structure, facade and partition walls were made with of white reinforced concrete.
It was a satisfying experience to see how the building emerged from the foundation as one of the models realized during the project, without relying on the usual brickworks, plaster, paint or, another works whose results have to be entrusted to the virtuosity of who runs them.
